Lexus Navigation DVD
Out of all the stock models, Lexus Navigation DVD is simply the best hands down out of the box. We’ve reviewed many Navigation units and none was better which covers the United States and Canada. All you need to do is click a button on the dash and you’re up and running on the satellite map. One of the other great things about the Lexus Navigation DVD is that you can calculate the route of where you want to go within seconds.
The 7″ LCD is touch-sensitive and is a screen of beauty. You’ll be amazed at how up to date the turn by turn is. If you’re made a wrong turn and the GPS is recalculating your routes or maybe there are traffic detours, there is a soothing GPS voice that tells you where to go. Other GPS units would have an abrasive voice that always annoyed me. Another thing that bothered me was some previous navigation units that I have used previously would take several seconds to catch up to where I am whenever I make a turn. You won’t find that problem with the Lexus Navigation DVD.
The cost is probably one of the most unattractive features of the navigation system. If you want it on your car, you must opt for the power seat and CD changer. I think most people would opt for this anyways, but you’re looking at a cost of 4,000 to 12,000 for the bundled Lexus navigation DVD. A suggestion that I would have for Lexus is for them to make the units less expensive and update the system more from time to time. Another minor feature about the unit that I think they need to change is allowing the user to modify the destination while the car is moving. I know this is a safety feature but what if there is a passenger that can control the system? You aren’t even able to override it, so I can see how this can be cumbersome to people out there.
My friend has a Subaru and I noticed that his Subaru navigation was clearly made from the same manufacturer as the Lexus navigation DVD. I was actually surprised to see this as I would think Lexus would want more exclusivity for their products since their business is all about luxury (a brand such as Subaru where you don’t want to be compared to). However, most Lexus drivers wouldn’t know the Subaru has the same model unless they own one or know a friend that owns one.
Overall, this unit is the best unit by far out of all the models that we have reviewed. It doesn’t skimp on the features and works quite well. It may have too many safety features implemented but I’m sure it will save a life or two and that is a fiduciary reasonability of the company.
